Marketing Assistant

Position Summary: Launch a career in communications, journalism or marketing as you work with the University Housing marketing office staff to promote department programs and services to multiple audiences, including current and prospective residents. The ideal applicant will help produce content for a variety of print and web publications. Review, update and revise informational and promotional copy. Help manage and determine social media strategy and outreach. Conduct interviews with staff, students and faculty. Write attention-grabbing features and briefs. Learn from marketing and communications professionals in a fast-paced, high-volume office. Develop experience and skills, taking on increasingly more complex jobs. Prepare a resume and portfolio that will have you ready for post-collegiate, entry-level career jobs.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older at date of hire. Undergraduate applicants must provide proof of enrollment in an accredited educational institution for a minimum of 8 credit hours each term for the current academic year. Graduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours per term; graduate students working on a thesis are required to be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credit hours per term.
Additional Required Qualifications: Basic knowledge of information-gathering and journalistic principles; ability to follow directions and to learn and follow university, department and Chicago style; strong grammar, spelling and writing skills; ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to learn and use office tools and web systems; available a minimum of 12 hours per week; must be reliable, punctual and professional.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in researching and writing for publication; experience with writing for the web; experience marketing and communicating to a collegiate and pre-college audience; experience assisting effective social media campaigns; degree work in journalism or communications, etc.; sophomore standing or above and able to make a long-term commitment.
Hourly Rate: $9.50-$11.00
