Meet Kevin Alltucker, PhD

  • Areas of tutoring expertise:
  • Child welfare and juvenile justice
  • What brought you to the University of Oregon?
  • After twenty years of working as a professional construction engineer, I changed careers. Originally, I was interested in a master's degree in counseling, but decided on a PhD in educational leadership.
  • How did you get involved in family and human services?
  • In 1992, I started volunteering for the Relief Nursery, a child abuse prevention agency in Eugene. The more time I spent there, the more I became fascinated with the issues surrounding child abuse and neglect. How did these families get into violent situations, and why wasn't our community doing more to support young children and families? I stayed for eight years, and then decided to pursue an academic career that would allow me to study children and families, and help change policies to better support our most vulnerable citizens.
  • What’s the best advice you have for a college student?
  • Try different classes, get to know your professors, and follow your heart.
  • How can students contact you?
  • Find me in the Fresh Marketcafé located in Global Scholars Hall on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and e-mail me at kalltuck@uoregon.edu.
