The University of Oregon is prepared for the flu season and leaders are closely monitoring the spread of the seasonal flu and H1N1 influenza (formerly known as swine flu). For students, including those in the residence halls, we are asking that they self-isolate if they have flu or flu-like illness for at least 24 hours after the fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius) subsides.
We request that they do not attend class, student activities, athletic events or work while sick. Faculty members have been asked to review their mandatory attendance policies so that students are not penalized for reasonable periods of isolation.
Students living in the residence halls can enlist help of roommates or neighbors to deliver food using the “sick tray” program. The program allows students to pick up meals in a dining facility and deliver them to an ill friend’s residence hall room. Our goal is to care for ill students while reducing the spread of influenza.
