- Winter Break: residence halls close Friday, December 7, 2007, at 7:00 p.m.
- Spring Break: residence halls close Friday, March 21, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.
As per the contract you are required to depart 24 hours after your last final or by 7:00 p.m. of finals week,
whichever comes first. Please pack your personal belongings accordingly as you will not be allowed
to return to the residence hall to retrieve items you might have forgotten. Be aware that you will not be
allowed to return to the Residence Halls early. If you have any questions, please contact your RA or Area Desk.
Residence Life staff members will be checking your room to ensure that everyone has completed the following:
- Close blinds on the first floor. Open blinds on upper floors.
- Take out trash (if staff has to take out the trash, you will be charged).
- Unplug computers (in case of power outages) and turn off alarm clocks.
- Clean out refrigerators, but keep them plugged in. Staff will be checking refrigerators to make sure food has been properly disposed of.
- Secure valuables (the University cannot assume responsibility for theft and/or damages).
- Turn your heater down, but not off.
- It is also possible that Housing staff may be entering rooms during the break for custodial work, maintenance work, and/or sanitation reasons.
- Rooms with vacancies will be entered to prepare the space for a new resident. In the event that you come back from Winter Break and find a new student
living in your room, we hope that you will extend them a warm UO welcome and provide them equitable space to share the room.
It is very difficult to be a new student in an established community, and harder still to move into a room with a person you don't know.
This is especially difficult for our international students who must overcome being new and getting adjusted to a different country, culture and
perhaps language.
If you have a documented travel-related conflict (i.e. airplane ticket) which prevents you from
leaving by 7:00 p.m., please pick up a "Stay Late" request form at your Area Desk and return it by the due date listed at the top of this page.
Your Complex Director will make all decisions regarding late stay-overs. Late stays will need to be moved out by the time indicated by
their Complex Directors. Your Complex Director will not approve any requests to stay past noon on the day after the official move-out date. If you wish
to stay longer than this, you must pay the interim break fee (see chart).
If you are planning to stay during Winter or Spring break, please sign up at your Area Desk no later than Monday, December 3, 2007 for winter break and no later than Monday, March 17, 2008 for spring break. There is no prorating
the stay-over fee (see chart for fee information). Please be aware that residents staying over the break may be relocated to a different room or hall for safety reasons. Additional instruction and information
will be given to those staying. There is no Food Service over the breaks. The last meal served in Winter term is lunch, Friday, December 7. The last meal served in Spring term is lunch, Friday, March 21. Permission to stay late Friday or stay the
entire break may be denied if you have been found responsible for violating University Code of Conduct or Housing policies. Some halls are shut down during the breaks due to
staffing or safety issues. If you have been approved to stay and the building you live in is closing, you will be temporarily relocated for the break period.
If these issues apply to you, a notice will be placed in your mailbox with further instructions and clarification.
University Housing offers an option to students who will be returning to live in the residence halls again after summer break. You can store items that you may not
want to haul back and forth from home for the duration of the summer.
