Residential Freshman Interest Groups – FIGs
- FIGs are only offered fall term.
- A FIG Academic Assistant (FA) is assigned to each FIG. FAs are outstanding undergraduates who work with the College Connections instructors to lead study groups and discussions.
- FIGs are limited to twenty-five students each, but the general-education classes that make up the FIG can be larger.
- Statistically, FIG participants earn better first-year grades than students who go it alone.
- If you select a Residential FIG placement will determine whether you will be placed in either a Double, Double with Sink, or an Enhanced Double room.
Q: Do you want some of your hallmates to be taking a couple of the same classes with you fall term? Want to have access to some of the most popular professors and classes as an incoming freshman? Want to make it even easier to participate in study groups and other fun activities with your classmates?
A: Join a Residential Freshman Interest Group [ResFIG]! You have approximately sixty FIGs fall term to choose from, and about twenty of these are Residential FIGs. Whether you are interested in science, fine arts, literature, or social issues, there is a FIG for you. You will receive the Chart Your Course brochure in April detailing this opportunity and explaining how to register.
A residential FIG consists of twenty-five first-year students who take two general-education courses together during fall
term and live in the halls together throughout the year. We've found that FIG communities support the academic success of
their members (evidenced by higher grade point averages), while promoting students' independence and creativity.
