Leadership for the 21st Century is a one-credit course sponsored by University Housing, Counseling Psychology and Human Services, the Holden Leadership Center and the Office of Multicultural Academic Support. It is offered during the Week of Welcome and is directed towards incoming first-year students. This course will provide you the opportunity to meet university leaders, discuss theories of leadership in small groups with a faculty/staff mentor, and meet student leaders from across campus that are looking to help get you involved! The course is a combination of short presentations, collaborative activities, and small group discussions. Previous keynotes have included University President Dave Frohnmayer and U.S. District Court Judge, Ann Aiken.
Registration for the course happens each summer at IntroDUCKtion where you register for fall courses; the Course Registration Number (CRN) for the class is TBA(To Be Announced). Course registration is limited to the first 100 students who register, so make sure to take this information with you if you are interested!
Course participants who are scheduled to live in the residence halls can move in one day early on Wednesday, September 24 free of charge. If you are interested in this, you will need to send in the supplemental form for early move-in to the University Housing office. This form was included with your University Housing contract packet and can also be found on the University Housing website at:
https://housing.uoregon.edu/forms/reshall_pre-arrival.php
You must complete and pass all course criteria to receive the free early move in accommodations.
The text Exploring Leadership (2nd ed., 2007) by Komives, Lucas and McMahon has been selected for the course this year, and students are expected to have read the book prior to arrival. This book is available at most major bookstores and through the UO Bookstore and their online site.
A syllabus and list of speakers will be added and updated throughout the summer.
