Safety

Please remember to watch your property when you are packing your belongings.

Do not load your car with valuables and leave it unattended overnight. Packed cars are targets for thieves during dead week and finals.

Please keep your doors locked.

Damages

If room damage was not noted on your Room Condition Report at the time of your check-in, it is considered your liability and you will be charged for it, unless you can prove otherwise. Any charges for damage or cleaning in a common area will be divided equally among all students in the floor, hall or complex. Additional cleaning and damage charges may be assessed after checkout.

Cleaning Agreements

Please review the check-out procedures carefully and make an effort to talk to your roommate and work out a fair and equitable cleaning arrangement.

How to Have a Successful Checkout

It is important to note that these procedures are part of your contract and that failure to follow through with these procedures may result in an improper check-out fine as well as charges for cleaning, missing keys/furniture, and damaged property.

It is expected once a roommate has cleaned his/her agreed areas and has been successfully checked out by a staff member, that it is the responsibility of the remaining roommate to keep the area clean. If the remaining roommate messes up a "signed off" area and fails to clean it, they will incur the cleaning charge. Each person is responsible for removing all debris and personal belongings from their room. Look for posted signs regarding trunk room hours, and summer storage.

Move Out Check-off List

  • Make an appointment with your RA for a checkout date and time starting dead week.
  • Bring all trash and recycling to designated areas.
  • DO NOT LEAVE TRASH IN HALLWAYS OR OTHER PUBLIC AREAS.
  • Help the community and environment while you move out:
    1. Donate all unwanted reusable items such as clothing, school supplies, appliances and bedding at your hall lobby from June 4 - 15, 2007. All donated goods will go to local charitable organizations to help residents of the Eugene/Springfield area.
    2. Remember to recycle all types of paper, boxes, glass/plastic bottles and metal cans at your residence hall recycling.
  • The carpet must be vacuumed, including underneath the beds.
  • Remove all personal belongings. (Check the bathroom, laundry areas, drawers and trunk rooms).
  • Return any checked out equipment to the area desk, i.e. lamps, linens, games, movies, hand trucks, etc.
  • Return all dishes (including the reusable black plates and baskets), flatware, and glasses belonging to University Housing to the dining hall.
  • Remove all decorations from walls, windows, mirrors, and doors.
  • Be sure all residence hall furnishings (including beds, recycling bins, bookcases, desk chairs, etc.) are accounted for and left in the room.
  • All furnishings must be reassembled if they were disassembled. If your bed is lofted, return it to the lowest position to avoid charges.
  • Return room, hall or common area inventory, i.e. furniture or vacuums, etc.
  • Restore your room to the condition it was when you checked-in, including moving furniture if needed.
  • Meet with your RA for your checkout appointment, sign off on your Room Condition Report (be sure to write your forwarding address on the room condition report) and hand in your keys.
  • Return your used laundry card when you return your keys to your RA to enter the drawing for a gift certificate to Target. Note: There are no refunds on pre-paid laundry cards.

Lighten Your Load: Your move-out made easy!

Don't just toss your stuff in the trash; donate it to families in need in our community. There are 58 collection sites located throughout the residence halls, from June 2 - 13, 2008. Donations go to the Springfield/Marcola Family Resource Centers to assist low income and homeless youth of Lane County. Acceptable items include clothing, household items, food, laundry and bath accessories, soaps, books, furniture, electronics, etc. Food items may be donated at Grab 'n' Go. For pick up of larger items or for more information, call Andre Moran at (541) 346-4299 or Bonnie Damewood at (541) 346-4301.

Summer Storage

If you are a resident currently living in the residence halls, and plan on living in the residence halls next year, University Housing has storage space available so you don't have to haul all your stuff back and forth over summer break. Get more information...

Please contact your RA or your CD regarding any questions about checkout procedures.

0 Moving Out of the Residence Halls During the Year Procedures 0

We encourage you to do the following:

  1. Notify your roommate of the intent to move.
  2. Check with your Resident Assistant concerning the intent to move at least twenty-four hours prior to initiating the move.
  3. Make arrangements with the area desk at least twenty-four hours prior to moving.
To avoid additional charges, follow the check-out list supplied by the area desk.

If you are leaving the residence halls, the meal plan ends at the time of check-out when keys are returned to the area desk.

Make sure you have read the Residence Hall Contract thoroughly. Moving out early may constitute breaking the contract, resulting in a $9 per day charge from the check-out date through the last day of the academic year.
