As an admitted student, an important next step is to register for housing and get ready for roommate browsing and room selection this summer.
Register for Housing
The sooner you register for housing, the more options and priority you have for room selection. We encourage you to register for housing even if you are still deciding on becoming a Duck. Read our blog post on the housing registration process for more information!
Roommate Browsing and Requests
In May, you will be invited via email to create your roommate profile. This includes adding more information about yourself, your hobbies, major, where you are from, and how students can connect with you. This is also a great time to look back at your housing registration and make sure your answers to the lifestyle questions are current. Those questions are used to help connect you with potential roommates.
Then in June, roommate browsing and requests will open in your My Housing portal–you will get an email notifying you of this. In your My Housing portal you will be able to:
- Request someone you already know
- Browse suggested roommates
- Search by lifestyle preferences
If you live in an Academic Residential Community or Residential Community, you will find roommate from you same community, creating strong bonds with peers who share your interest or identities.
Based on your registration date (and your roommate's), you will be assigned a date and time to self-select your room in July! You will self-select your room smilar to choosing seats on an airplane or for a concert ticket. You will be sent an email with information on room selection and you will be able to see your date and time in your My Housing portal.
If you requested a roommate before June 30, you and your roommate will have the same date and time for room selection. Your designated group leader will be able to go in and select a room on behalf of you both or you will want to make sure and coordinate so that you select your room together, at the same time–this solidifies being roommates.
Be sure to communicate with your roommate and have a plan for your top building and room choice as well as back-ups if that space is not available. When you log in for room selection, you will see a list of all available rooms and will have the option to filter by building, room type, and amenities. You can change your room to another available room any time before room selection closes July 31.
Check back on our blog in June for more details on the room selection process. In September, when we send you move-in information, you will have a "My Assignment" page in your My Housing portal that will have information about your room, roommate, mailing address, and more.
All of the above steps take place in your My Housing portal. For those that are still making their final decisions, June 1 is the last day to cancel your housing registration and receive 100 percent of the initial housing payment ($350). Room selection dates are assigned based on when a student registers for housing.
