Dear University Housing Staff:

I am writing to share with you a proposed change to discounted University Housing staff meals in University Housing dining centers.

University Housing is proud to have been able to provide a meal discount to employees for many years, as we want to encourage you to experience the different dining locations on campus as well as to eat with students and co-workers. The meal discount has been adjusted from time to time in order to try and keep up with food costs. The most recent adjustment was made in 1999. We care deeply about our staff and know rising costs can be difficult. We want to continue to offer a low-cost meal option for all University Housing employees while also covering our food costs of each meal.

University Housing currently provides dining employees with one free meal at the venue where they work their shift, during their meal break (except Central Kitchen & Catering employees). All other University Housing employees can purchase a 5-points-for-$2 meal or a $2 entrance to an all-you-care-to-eat venue in University dining facilities.

To keep up with increased food costs, University Housing is proposing a 5-points-for-$3 meal or a $3 entrance to an all-you-care-to-eat venue, beginning September 1, 2016.  For dining employees, we are proposing a 5-points-for-$1 meal or a $1 entrance to an all-you-care-to-eat venue until December 31, 2016.  Beginning January 1, 2017, dining employees will move to the same rate as all other housing employees.

We believe this proposed change will allow us to continue to provide a discount to University Housing employees, while also being fiscally responsible.  We will evaluate our ability to continue the discount in future years on an annual basis.

We want to let you know about this proposed change well in advance, and will have meetings so staff and students can discuss and provide feedback. I encourage you to participate in these meetings, and appreciate all you do for University Housing.
