Bil Morrill

Assistant Director for College and Career Advising—Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Flight Path

What is your background and areas of interest?

I have worked in academic advising and career advising for almost 25 years. I’ve been at the UO for the last 18 years working in the School of Journalism and Communication, the Office of Academic Advising, and now Tykeson College and Career Advising. I enjoy helping students find their passion and make a plan to achieve their dreams.

What brought you to the University of Oregon?

I was a transfer student to the UO in 1991 and came because of family. I did my BA in Spanish and my MS in counseling and then started working at another Oregon school and then at a community college in Arizona. When the opportunity to return to UO came in 2003 I jumped at the opportunity to return to my alma mater! Go Ducks!

How did you get involved in academic advising?

I started off in career advising but learned very quickly that it is hard to separate career and academic advising and do them separately. I had the chance in the School of Journalism and Communication to combine the two areas, and I’ve been working in both ever since.

What’s the best advice you have for a college student?

See your advisor often! Don’t wait. If you have a question, ask it now.

How can students contact you?

The best way is to make an appointment with me is on Navigate. If you have a question, send me a Teams message or an email (bmorrill@uoregon.edu). Also, stop by my office and see if I have time to talk. If my door’s open, I’m ready to talk!
