Apartment Router Setup

All residents living in off-campus university apartments have access to the Internet at no extra cost, but must provide their own router if they want wireless. For the router to connect to the Internet, it must be registered. The router will expire after one year and will need to be re-registered.

Steps to Connect a Router

Steps to set up a router can vary by brand. Follow the general steps below with extra guidance from the router’s manual.

  1. Find the Internet MAC address of the router. This can be found in the router settings menu. Alternatively, you can find a MAC address printed on the back of the router. But this MAC is not what our system will see, and will need to have the last character incremented by one.
  2. Register the MAC address for use on the campus network at ise-guest.uoregon.edu.
  3. Plug in the router to power and ethernet.
  4. Set up the router Wi-Fi network name and password.
  5. Test the router to see if it is connected to the Internet. There is an Internet status light on the router, usually with a planet symbol.
    • Status light green: the device is online
    • Status light orange: the device is not correctly registered
    • Status light off: the cable is not plugged in correctly to either the wall or router
