Internet Setup

The University of Oregon provides both wireless and wired internet for University Housing residents. Phones, tablets, and computers can connect to wireless. All other devices must be connected by an Ethernet cable.

Wireless

Students should use the campus-wide UO Secure wireless network. Log in to this network with your Duck ID and password. If needed the Duck ID password can be reset.

Connecting to UO Secure

  1. Select the “UO Secure” network from the list of wireless networks on your device.
  2. Enter your Duck ID and password (associated with your UO email address).
  3. Click “OK” to any prompts.
  4. Once connected, you should not have to log in again until your password changes.

Wired

Any device (computer, game console, smart TV, etc.) plugged in to Ethernet must be registered by MAC addresses at ise-guest.uoregon.edu. The registration system helps us keep the network safe and know who owns each device. ResNet has Ethernet cables and adapters available for purchase if needed.

Connecting to Ethernet

  1. Find the Ethernet MAC address of the device.
  2. Register the device at ise-guest.uoregon.edu.
  3. Plug in the Ethernet cable to the device and Ethernet port in the room.
  4. The registration for each device is valid for one year.

Registration lets us know who is responsible for a device. This allows us to notify the owner if an issue arises, such as a malware infection. Notification is often by email and/or network quarantine.
