Reporting Obligations

All members of the Conduct and Care team are designated reporters and are required to report all incidents of prohibited discrimination and harassment including sexual harassment and violence that they learn about to the Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance. They will also direct students to resources to help them.

Visit campus resources and student services.

Roommate Agreements

Sharing space with anyone can be challenging. Sharing a small space with a stranger can feel impossible. Roommate agreements are designed with this in mind. All residents should take time to complete the roommate agreement form with their roommate(s) at the beginning of the year and every time there are significant changes in the room. Contact your RA or email us at housingconduct@uoregon.edu for more information on accessing the roommate agreement form. Common topics for roommates to discuss:

  • Sleep and study schedules
  • Guests and socializing
  • Shared items and space
  • Cleaning responsibilities
  • Communication preferences
  • Intimacy in the room

Let’s Talk

Let's Talk is an event for drop-in consultation hours hosted by University Counseling Services at different venues throughout the week. Each Tuesday they are in Carson Hall as a partnership with our residence life team. They have a licensed counselor available to offer advice and consultation about concerns that residents have without scheduling a full therapy session. This is an easy, free first step to get more information on professional services that are available and what to do next.

Mediations

Want to request mediation? Complete the Resident Assistant Mediation Process (RAMP) request form and you will be guided through the next steps by housing staff.

Throughout the mediation process, students are expected to:

  • Follow the lead of the mediators
  • Listen to the other resident(s) and the mediator(s)
  • Communicate well enough to explain their interests and to tell their stories
  • Seek and share the facts and information necessary to make informed decisions
  • Discuss and consider creative solutions to problems
  • Follow the ground rules
Ground rules:
  1. Do not interrupt when others are speaking. You will have a full and equal opportunity to speak on every issue that comes up for discussion.
  2. Speak for yourself. Make “I” statements. And use each other’s first names.
  3. Express yourself in terms of what you need and what you are interested in, and the outcome you are seeking.
  4. Focus on the problems and concerns at hand. Do not attack each other. Simply, be respectful of others.
  5. Do not use language that blames the other person; i.e., use non-inflammatory words.
  6. Listen carefully and try to understand what the other is saying without judging the person or the message.
  7. If you share an issue, present it as a concern for you and follow-up with a constructive suggestion to resolve it.
  8. If anything does not work for you, please raise your hand, or speak up so we can address it as soon as possible.
  9. I will not be taking sides, so do not use me as leverage or to persuade the other. Your concerns should be regarding the other person here.

Note: a mediator may introduce other ground rules to address any specific needs of the residents. Residents may also propose the inclusion of ground rules before beginning the mediation process.

At the end of a mediation session, students will be expected to either to confirm or reject the agreement they created with their mediators.
